Massey's congregation was founded in 1855 by John Massey, and descendants of the Massey family are still associated with the church. About 1900 the current Massey's Chapel United Methodist Church (which is on the Durham Register of Historic Buildings and Places) was constructed. The building has been remodeled several times--for example, a pot-bellied stove originally sat in the middle of the sanctuary. For a pictorial tour of Massey's history, go here.
